Recommended Team Fortress 2 settings
Researched August 2026. Copy any config below to grab these values.| Setting | PvP | Balanced | Visual Quality |
|---|---|---|---|
| Display modeExclusive fullscreen is recommended over borderless/windowed for dedicating full system resources to TF2's performance. | Fullscreen | Fullscreen | Fullscreen |
| Ambient occlusionTF2's Source engine exposes no dedicated ambient-occlusion toggle in its options, so this is set off by default in line with the overall performance-first profile. | Off | Off | Off |
| Anti-aliasing qualityAnti-aliasing is flagged as a high-GPU-impact setting worth lowering first, and competitive-focused guidance disables it for max frames. | Low | Medium | Epic |
| Resolution scaleGuides only suggest dropping actual display resolution as a last resort on struggling low-end rigs, not a broad internal resolution-scale cut, so native scale is kept. | 100 | 100 | 100 |
| Texture qualityTexture detail is cheap on modern GPUs and both optimization guides keep it High even while cutting other settings, since it barely costs frames and keeps player models/skins readable. | High | High | Epic |
| Effects qualityGuides recommend lowering particle/effects detail to reduce visual clutter from explosions and gunfire that can obscure enemy players. | Low | Medium | Epic |
| Frame rate limitTF2's old Source engine easily exceeds most refresh rates, and guides recommend an uncapped fps_max for players with capable systems and high-refresh monitors. | Uncapped | 144 FPS | 144 FPS |
| Shadow qualityLowering or disabling shadow detail (r_shadows 0) is the most consistently cited classic TF2 FPS-boost step and has no downside for competitive visibility. | Low | Medium | Epic |
| VSyncEvery guide consulted disables V-Sync to cut input lag, which matters directly for hit registration in a competitive shooter. | Off | Off | Off |
| Foliage qualityRemoving detail props and grass sprites (r_drawdetailprops 0, cl_detaildist 0) is a specifically recommended step to cut clutter and gain frames on competitive maps. | Low | Medium | Epic |
| Motion blurAll sources agree motion blur must be off since it blurs the screen during fast turns, hurting target tracking in fights. | Off | Off | Off |
| Post-process qualityConsole-command optimization guidance disables HDR and respawn-glow post effects, which cost frames without helping target visibility. | Low | Medium | High |
| View distance qualityDraw distance/LOD is called out as a high-impact setting, and hardcore FPS guides force low-poly models regardless of distance (r_lod 2) for maximum frames. | Low | Medium | Epic |

What are the best graphics settings for competitive FPS games?
Most competitive players lower shadow quality, effects, and post-processing to maximize frame rate and reduce visual noise, while keeping texture and anti-aliasing settings high enough to spot enemies clearly. The exact values differ per game and per PC - that's why our configs come from real players and show every individual setting, so you can copy a proven setup that matches your hardware.
Is Settings For Games free?
Yes. Browsing, copying, and publishing configs is completely free, and so is the Windows app. No signup is needed to copy settings. If the project helps you, there's an optional donation link.
Will copying a config overwrite my keybinds or sensitivity?
No. The copy & merge dialog keeps your personal settings - keybinds, mouse sensitivity, audio levels, crosshair colors - and only takes the graphics and performance values from the community config. You can also copy the raw config if you want everything.
Is the Windows app safe to use?
The app is a portable EXE that never modifies game files beyond the official settings/config files each game already exposes. It previews every change before writing and creates an automatic backup, so you can restore your previous settings at any time. Unsigned builds can show a Windows SmartScreen prompt until the file builds reputation.
Which games are supported?
The app can automatically apply settings for Rust, ARC Raiders, Valorant, and League of Legends, and can read Counter-Strike 2 settings. On the website you can browse and copy configs for 70+ cataloged games, including Escape from Tarkov, Apex Legends, Fortnite, Warzone, PUBG, Overwatch 2, and Marvel Rivals - and you can suggest any game we're missing.
How do I share my own config?
Either upload your config file on the website (sign in, then "Publish a config"), or use the desktop app: it detects your installed games, reads your current settings, and publishes them to your profile in a couple of clicks. Configs can be public, unlisted, or private.
